Weymouth-based Michael Watson continued his remarkable run of success by winning the St Austell Pro-am for his 11th victory in his last 23 pro-ams. He has also finished second three times.

The Wessex Golf Centre professional shot two-under-par 67 to finish one clear of Anthony Nash (St Enodoc), Paul Hendriksen (Dinnaton) and Richard Sadler (Killiow).

Watson turned in two-under-par after birdies at the second and ninth, but he failed to improve after dropping shots at the tenth and 15th with birdies on the 14th and 16th.

Nash’s chances of a first win in his debut season disappeared when he dropped a shot at the 13th and followed with a double.

Hendriksen also rued two expensive holes, the ninth where he dropped two shots followed by a four at the par three 10th. Sadler’s round contained no disasters making three birdies and two bogeys.

Chris Gill (Newquay) continued his improving form by carding a par 69 to take fifth while Cornish trio Dan Wood (Ivyleaf), Grant Slater (Trevose) and Nick Rogers (Falmouth) were two strokes further behind in sixth.

Nicks Horrocks (Staddon Heights) won the team prize on 124, three better than Ian Marshall (Plymouth Golf Centre) with Hendriksen third on 129.
