DORSET’S Georgia Hall safely negotiated the halfway cut in the Ricoh Women’s British Open despite a disappointing back nine in her second round at St Andrews yesterday.
Hall, who was tied 10th overnight following a superb four-under 68 in her first round, was among the early starters and joined the leaders after carding birdies on two of the opening four holes.
The 17-year-old British Amateur champion remained six-under at the turn after a bogey on the sixth had been cancelled out by another birdie on the ninth before the Old Course showed its teeth.
Five dropped shots in as many holes and another on the famous Road Hole 17th saw the Remedy Oak member slip back to level. But she finished with a flourish to birdie the 18th for the second day in succession and closed with a three-over 75.
Hall finished tied 31st with a host of other players and is vying with Celine Boutier from France and New Zealand’s Lydia Ko for the Smyth Salver Medal, the prize for the leading amateur.
