IN-FORM Kevin Spurgeon will be looking for another five-figure pay day when the cheques are dished out on the final day of this week’s Senior Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.

Spurgeon, who was due to tee off his first round at 8.40am this morning, earned more than 17,000 euros when he finished tied 16th at Walton Heath in 2011.

The 58-year-old Ferndown star (pictured) is in a rich vein of form, coming runner-up to order of merit leader Paul Wesselingh in Switzerland earlier this month.

Spurgeon, who won the Mauritius Open in 2009, lost a play-off to Wesselingh in the Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open.

“It was perfect timing with the biggest one of them all coming up,” Spurgeon told the Daily Echo.

“I go into the Senior Open Championship with my game in good shape and with high expectations of making my third successive halfway cut.”

Spurgeon, who finished tied 59th at Turnberry last July, is currently ranked seventh in the European Senior Tour rankings.

He tees off his second round at 13.10 tomorrow.
