DORSET duo Hayley Davis and Georgia Hall produced strong displays but fell short in their quest to help Great Britain & Ireland claim Vagliano Trophy glory.

Ferndown player Davis was the visitors’ most successful performer over the two days in France as she registered three wins from four matches.

But opponents Europe comfortably retained the silverware with a 16.5-7.5 success at a sunny Chantilly Golf Club near Paris at the weekend.

GB & Ireland won only one session of play at Chantilly – the opening foursomes by a 3-1 margin. Hall and Davis combined to give them a perfect start with a five and three victory over Nicole Larsen and Emily Pedersen.

Celine Boutier then got the better of Hall in the opening round of singles matches.

And although Davis managed to overcome Quirine Eijkenboom of Germany four and three, Europe quickly wiped out their early deficit by the close of the opening day.

Hall, who hit the headlines after winning the British Amateur Championship last month, partnered Davis to GB & Ireland’s only foursomes victory on the second day, defeating European champion Boutier (France) and Spain’s Natalia Escuriola two and one.

But in the afternoon, Hall went down four and three to Noemi Jimenez (Spain) in the top singles tie after being all square at the turn.

County colleague Davis also lost against Camilla Hedberg as Europe took control.

Remedy Oak member Hall was taking part in the fixture after passing over a place in the US Women’s Open in favour of representing GB & Ireland. Hall’s British title triumph had earned her exemption to the major.
