Stokoe treble fires Magpies to win
 |
| WINNING END: Christer Warren |
WIMBORNE striker James Stokoe netted his second consecutive hat-trick as Christer Warren's side won the race to finish third in the Wessex Premier Division.
Magpies claimed local bragging rights over Poole and Poppies by hammering Romsey Town 5-0 in their final league fixture of the campaign.
And player-boss Warren was pleased with the efforts of Stokoe, who ended the season as the club's second highest scorer on 24 goals, with hotshot Scott Joyce heading the list on 48.
"James's running off the ball was good," Warren told the Daily Echo.
"He's got great feet and one of his goals was particularly very good. Centre forwards thrive on goals and in the last two games he's got two hat-tricks. Hopefully he can carry that into the Wessex League Cup final.
"We'll work all week on it and get geared up for the final, hopefully we can put a good performance in for the fans.
"I think it will be a massive crowd and I hope we don't freeze on the occasion, and express ourselves."
Before Saturday's match, Warren had called on his players to put in good performances in an attempt to secure their places in his side for Saturday's showpiece against Moneyfields.
And it seems that Sam Percival is the man in line to fill the central defensive vacancy left by suspended skipper Paul Roast.
"We've got a problem with Ollie Phillipson-Masters. He's got a dodgy ankle and we had to bring him off again, so we've got a problem at the back.
"But Sam Percival came in for Paul Roast and was outstanding, so he is pencilled in for the centre-half spot."
Wimborne Town: Hutchings, Phillipson-Masters (Warren), Percival (Vavrecka), Jones, Arnold, James, McCormick, Woods, Bailey-Pearce, Stokoe, Joyce (Whitcher).
