Elm honoured by Bash faithful
 |
| David Elm |
TERRACE favourite David Elm admits he just wants to get tomorrow's match out of the way and concentrate on Bashley's play-off push.
The club's number one, who was named Supporters' Player of the Year following last weekend's crucial victory over Mangotsfield United, has enjoyed a fine season between the sticks for Steve Riley's men.
And he was keen to express his gratitude to the Recreation Ground faithful.
He said: "I've never won the award before and it was a pleasant surprise.
"They're a good bunch of boys and girls. I wasn't expecting it and it was a bit of a shock, but I'm very happy about it."
Bash travel to face relegated Bedford Town tomorrow (3pm) in the final round of Southern League Premier Division matches. But Elm confessed that his thoughts are already shifting to Tuesday's play-off semi-final.
"It's a tricky one," Elm, a publican by trade, told the Daily Echo. "We've already got our minds on the play-offs and it's one of those games that you've got to get out of the way, then move on."
Bash will face a daunting trip to either King's Lynn or Team Bath, depending which side misses out on the championship.
"No matter what, we have got a tough game," said Elm.
"One thing that might go in our favour is that the team we play will have just missed out on the league title.
"Being away from home will be difficult but we're still quietly confident we can keep exceeding expectations."
If Bash win on Tuesday, they will go on to face the winners of the other play-off semi-final - Halesowen Town v Chippenham Town - for a place in the Conference South next season.
And Elm believes the club's current crop could hold their own in that league.
He said: "It would be tremendous to be in the Conference South. I think the squad is quite capable and we've shown we can compete in the past few years."
Boss Riley is likely to tinker with his line-up in order to ensure his players are well prepared for the play-offs.
Striker Richard Gillespie is still undergoing treatment for a hamstring problem and defender Pete Castle will not be risked ahead of Tuesday.
"We're going to rest people," revealed Riley. "It's sensible because we have one or two players with injuries and there's no need to chance it. The result won't change our position or Bedford's, so it's the common sense thing to do."
Bashley: (from) Elm, Gazzard, Ferrett, Archbold, Middleton, Smith, Knowles, Davis, Moss, Town, Sainsbury, Keeler, Harper, Burch, Brock, Riley, Hayter, Blackmore, Hollick.

You certainly had our vote Elmo well done on a terrific season, I fancy us to sneak a 1-0 at a deflated team Tax then take Chippy out in the Final.Tread em in

UB, that would be the preferred route for me as well.
The team Cheat game would be a real 'cup' battle that i can see us winning and if Chippenham were to get through against the Yeltz we would have to fancy our chances very strongly against them as we've played them off the park twice this term, sadly one of those games resulted in a draw but we were by far the better team in it and that should give us the confidence against them.
NB i'd like to think that we've been practising pens for the first game at Bath as i can see that being very very tight.
