Killick blasts Southern League Cup player rules
8:48pm Wednesday 17th October 2012 in Non league football
POOLE Town boss Tom Killick blasted as “unfair” new Southern League rules as a mixed Dolphins team overcame Weymouth 3-0 in the Red Insure Cup.
The directive says clubs must start a tie with at least seven players who have commenced at least one of the two previous two league fixtures.
Killick got around the ruling by substituting first-choice goalkeeper Nick Hutchings after two minutes against the Terras.
The Tatnam outfit went on to win the game comfortably with Sam Wilson’s brace sandwiching Adam Kelly’s strike.
Killick told the Daily Echo: “We feel the ruling is unfair and it presented us with a difficulty as players needed game time.
“We were forced to start with Nick and made an early substitution. It is fair enough to prevent clubs playing weakened sides but we had first-team players who have not been playing recently.
“If it was a league match, we wouldn’t have been prevented from making changes so I don’t see the difference with the League Cup.”
- Bashley crashed out of the Hampshire Senior Cup, losing 1-0 at home to Wessex League club Newport IOW, while Christchurch lost 3-0 at Eastleigh.
Hamworthy United were beaten 1-0 at home to Bemerton in the Wessex Premier.
