SUBSTITUTES Taffy Richardson and Karim Lammali helped Poole Town over the line in Tuesday’s FA Trophy preliminary round replay as the Dolphins booked a derby date with Bashley .

Tom Killick ’s men, who eventually ran out 3-1 victors at Tatnam , were in charge after close-range efforts from Carl Preston and Marvin Brooks either side of the break had given them a 2-0 lead.

But Anthony Page’s scrappy effort put wind in the visitors’ sails before the introduction of veteran Richardson settled things and Lammali struck to finish them off.

Victory earned the Dolphins £2,300 in prize money and set up a first qualifying round home clash with Southern Premier Bash on September 29.

Poole boss Killick told the Daily Echo: “It was only when we got the third goal that we could relax. At 2-0, we seemed to get ragged and let them back into the game.

“They had a period where they looked strong and perhaps an equaliser had looked on the cards. I think they are a strong side so, to come through unscathed, was the be-all and end-all.”

Killick added: “Taffy has unbelievable know-how in terms of seeing out games, doing the right things and influencing others. I trust him implicitly whether he starts or comes on as substitute. He is an exceptional player and an exceptional character.

“With regard to Karim, there are a couple of things people need to remember. One is that he had never before played at this level and, secondly, he had been out of football for a long time. He has got to adjust to the level and get his fitness back.

“He can be a little erratic but, when he does good things, they tend to be very good so he can be a valuable player for us this season. I still hope we will see some further improvement from him.”
