Swans march on in Vase with win over Andover New Street
7:00am Monday 3rd September 2012 in Non league football By Echo Reporter
Swanage Town & Herston completed a stunning 3-0 FA Vase first qualifying round win over Wessex One side Andover New Street.
Captain Paul Best bagged a brace and Jacob Harrup also found the net as the Dorset Premier League side set up a second qualifying round clash with United Services Portsmouth.
It was the club’s first FA Vase triumph for more than 20 years. See this week’s Swanage Advertiser for a full report and reaction.
- Verwood Town will have to do it all again in the Vase at Hayling United tomorrow night after a 2-2 draw following extra-time at Potterne Park .
The visitors took the lead, before Brad Hill levelled matters and the clash stayed locked at 1-1 at full-time.
And although Nathan Saxby’s extra-time strike put the Potters 2-1 in front, Hayling equalised two minutes later to set up a replay.
- Simon De’ath bagged the only goal of the game as New Milton Town beat Tadley Calleva and set up an FA Vase second qualifying round derby tie against Lymington Town.
- In the Wessex Premier Division, Hamworthy United slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Alresford.
- Gary Middleton’s injury time winner handed Bashley all three points in their 1-0 win over Bedworth United in the Southern Premier Division.
A forgettable match looked likely to end in stalemate before Middleton’s timely intervention, taking down Charlie Knight’s free kick and volleying home at the far post two minutes into added time.
Bash boss Frank Gray told the Echo: “Performance-wise it wasn’t great and they (Bedworth) will be disappointed to go back with no points, but we kept plugging away until we got the goal.
“We’re delighted to get the three points and equally delighted with another clean sheet. After the Hemel defeat, it was important to get back to basics.”
Bash: Prodomo, Smith, Oliver, Strickland, Middleton, Richardson, Casey, Hill, Stokoe, Green (Lompato-Pires 72), Knight. Subs: Vokes, Speechley-Price, Gazzard, Kearn.
