Daniel: Title race will go to the wire

HAMWORTHY Recreation manager Gareth Daniel believes the Dorset Premier League title race will go “to the wire”, despite his unbeaten side holding an eight-point advantage at the top.

The Magna Road outfit came from 1-0 down to triumph 3-1 over Poole Borough at Turlin Moor.

James Stickland put the Hornets in charge after seven minutes, but Jamie Moores levelled for Rec five minutes into the second half.

Moores completed the turnaround, before Mike Notley secured victory for the visitors with his 73rd-minute strike.

Daniel’s men are now unbeaten in 22 DPL games.

But the title-chasing boss is taking nothing for granted at this stage, as many of the pursuing clubs hold three or four games in hand.

He said: “I’m confident we can do it and everyone is now saying it is ours to lose.

“But you still have teams like Westland, Chickerell, Weymouth, Holt and Swanage who will think they have a chance.”

Second-placed Chickerell United won 1-0 at Cranborne and hold three games in hand over Rec.

Elsewhere, Swanage Town and Herston’s faltering title challenge suffered another stumble after they were held 3-3 at second-from-bottom Bridport.

The Swans went 2-0 down early on, but they stormed into a 3-2 lead just six minutes after half-time, courtesy of Liam Currell, Paul Yerby and Jamie Holland.

The visitors were forced to settle for a point, though, as Ben Clark equalised for the Bees.

Holt United hit seven goals for the second successive game, as they ran riot at basement side Sturminster Newton.

Mariusz Iglewski netted a penalty to open the scoring, before Rodrigo Pons, Simon Edwards and Jamie Wilson made it 4-0.

Edwards and Pons both scored again after the break and Dave Perry completed the rout.

Despite a goal from Shane Duggan, Sturminster Marshall went down 4-1 to Weymouth.
