Priory boss wants silverware for Burrows

CUP experts Christchurch believe it would be a fitting tribute to their former striker, the late Marc Burrows, if they could lift some silverware this season.

Priory visit AFC Totton in the Hampshire Senior Cup semi-final next month and host Poole Town in the last eight of the Wessex League Cup.

And manager Graham Kemp would love nothing more than to lift one of those trophies in memory of Burrows, who died aged 30 a year ago today after losing his fight against pancreatic cancer.

Kemp said: “Whatever we achieve this season, or in the future, Marc was an important part of that team building process starting.

“Even though he isn’t here to be involved this season, good teams aren’t built overnight.

“There are always foundations and he was one of the players when I joined the club and started the process.

“We just want to carry on what he helped start and it would be fitting if we could win silverware in Marc’s memory.

“It’s a difficult time for us, his family and fiancee Claire. Our thoughts are with them more than ever.

“All the lads miss him and still talk about him, mentioning his name often in team talks.

“We have a photograph of him in the changing room and will always keep his memory alive.

“With that in mind, we’re all going to the clubhouse at Hurn Bridge tonight to have a drink and a get-together as a mark of respect to Marc.

“It’s nothing official, just committee members, players and supporters remembering a fine fellow and footballer.

“We’re going to be there from 6.30pm onwards, so if anyone wants to join us who knew Marc, or who played in the same team as him, they’re welcome to join us.”
