Killick gutted as Dolphins slip up at Cowes

POOLE Town boss Tom Killick admitted he was gutted after the defending champions slipped up with a 1-1 draw at basement boys Cowes Sports.

Despite Ross Lloyd’s header putting Poole in front early in the second half, Mark Augustus bagged Cowes’ shock 63rd-minute equaliser and the hosts then hung on for a surprise draw.

Killick said: “Cowes just broke away and their striker applied a fine finish. It was sad because it was genuinely their only shot of the game. We dominated from start to finish without playing particularly well.

“We should have won comfortably, but it was frustrating. Once they scored, they just defended in numbers and got everyone behind the ball.

“Although we had two or three chances, we just couldn’t get the winner.”

Poole Town: Ackerman, Gill, Lloyd, Walker, Whitley, Hubbard, Sturgess (Poore, 75), Richardson, Preston, Dovell (Smith, 55), Cook. Unused sub: Campion.

<•>Graham Kemp says his Christchurch side have no fear going to AFC Totton after his Wessex underdogs were drawn away to the high-flying Southern League outfit in the county cup.

Priory must travel to the Zamaretto South & West promotion chasers next month in the Hampshire Senior Cup semi-final, with holders Fleet at home to Farnborough Town or Aldershot in the other tie.

Kemp, buoyed by Christchurch’s convincing 4-1 home league win over Winchester City on Saturday, said: “You don’t get any easy teams left in the semis. We’ll just go there and give it everything we’ve got.”

Marc Fairbrother’s long-range screamer fired Priory in front against Winchester, who had their goalkeeper sent off in the first half.

Zach Glasspool levelled in the 74th minute, but Ben Osborne (2) and James Burden also hit the target against 10-man City.

Christchurch: Kearn, Costello (Taylor 70), Legg, Crutchley, Linpow, Harris, Smith (Lawrence 75), Fairbrother, Osborne, Price (Green 70), Burden. Unused subs: Jeffes, Lucas.
