Powell warns players to expect hard graft

WIMBORNE Town assistant manager Darren Powell has warned the club’s players to expect plenty of hard yards when they return to pre-season training.

Powell, fresh from a family holiday in Florida, is eager to return to the training ground as he aims to get Magpies’ squad in shape for the Wessex Premier season.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to work with Alex Browne and the rest of the squad,” he said.

“A good pre-season is essential if we are to make a title challenge. We had a great finish last season and we want to pick up where we left off.

“But I want to assure everyone the squad will be very fit in the new season.

“Last season, at times, we seemed to lack that little bit of stamina so we will be working hard in pre-season training to overcome that.”

Powell added: “Even the likes of Manchester United try and bring in new blood and we are no different on that score.

“Because of the budget constraints we won’t be bringing in five or six new faces, but you could see two or three.

“Any new signings won’t be there just to make up the numbers and they’ll be coming on our terms.”
