Jerome's boys back on track

HOLT United boss Wayne Jerome believes his season is back on track following the club’s behind-the-scenes battles in recent weeks.

Jerome briefly walked away from the Bulls last month following a dispute with the committee over team affairs But after holding clear-the-air talks, he returned to the dugout ahead of the Easter weekend.

And the Bulls have responded to this by recording three straight Dorset Premier League victories, with their latest coming in a 5-2 home triumph over Hamworthy United on Saturday.

Jerome said: “We were all pushing in the wrong direction and there was too much interference from ex-managers.

“But I had a good chat with the chairman and other people involved in the club – now we’re getting things set for next year.

“We’ve decided to get rid of people who have messed us about all season.

“These are big time Charlies, so we’ve brought in some under-18s and reserve players and we’re having a look at as many people as we can.”

Garry Williams gave Hamworthy the advantage from the penalty spot after 14 minutes but Pepe Smith levelled on 19.

Mark Claremont put Hammers back in front on the half-hour, only for Smith to strike again just before the interval.

The break was exactly what the home side needed and they dominated the second period, with goals from Darren Facer, Steve Devlin and Simon Edwards sealing the three points.

Swanage Town and Herston climbed back into second spot after racking up a 4-0 win over Sturminster Newton.

Despite missing a penalty in the first 45 minutes, Jacob Harrop netted the opener after the break.

Jamie Holland, Lee James and Anthony Warrington then weighed in with more as the Swans continued their stunning close to the campaign.

They take over from Poole Borough in second place after the Hornets were forced to come from behind for a 2-2 stalemate at home to Wincanton Town.

Goals from Alex Tremlett and Chris Pullen left the Turlin Moor outfit reeling in the opening 20 minutes.

But Rodrigo Pons pulled one back on 37, before netting a stoppage time equaliser to ensure the Hornets left with a share of the spoils.

Meanwhile, rejuvenated Cobham Sports were left dejected after throwing away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Westland Sports at Merley.

Jon Lever and Kabba Jack put the home side in charge but the Somerset outfit hit back to level matters in the last five minutes.

Elsewhere, Blandford United went down 3-0 at home to leaders Portland United, while Bridport triumphed 1-0 at Cranborne.

And Chickerell United reached the DPL Cup final after beating Hamworthy Recreation 6-5 on penalties following a 1-1 draw between the teams at Magna Road.
