SWANAGE Town and Herston boss Jason Phillips admitted Jacob Harrop should have had a hat-trick, as he inspired his side to a 3-0 triumph over Poole Borough at Days Park.
The home side took charge after 21 minutes, when striker Jamie Holland was upended in the Hornets box.
Harrop converted the resulting spot kick into the bottom corner and then doubled the lead on 26.
Gary Bartlett’s ball from the right was allowed to bounce softly across the six-yard box and Harrop stroked the ball home.
Despite constantly threatening the Borough defence, Harrop will be disappointed not to be celebrating four goals after missing a one-on-one chance in either half.
His manager knows he should have scored more but was delighted to see Swans dominate his former club.
Phillips said: “Jacob only has himself to blame for not getting a hat-trick, but he deserves every credit for that performance.
“The lads did me proud because we fought well.”
Borough have been linked with a number of the Swanage side this season and Phillips says they have made approaches for Jamie Holland, Gary Bartlett and Aaron Corby. But these were unsuccessful and the Swans boss is determined to keep a promising side together for next season.
He added: “Poole Borough have some good players, I will say that, but I wouldn’t swap one of mine for one of theirs.
“Aaron Corby, Jacob Harrop and Jamie Holland were a different class on Monday and it’s just a case of trying to keep players together for next season.
“I hope they don’t get pinched because I know Borough have the budget to pinch them”
While Swans leapfrog Borough into second place, Portland United stay top following a 1-1 draw at Hamworthy Recreation.
Crispin Rigler netted for Rec who remain fourth in the standings.
Meanwhile, Holt United continued their return to form after triumphing 3-1 at Blandford United.
Darren Facer fired the Bulls ahead after half an hour but Jamie Haylock levelled matters for the Royals 10 minutes into the second half.
Pepe Smith restored Holt’s lead on 64 and Steve Devlin made the points safe with a quarter of an hour left.
Goals from Matt Jones and Darrell Williams were not enough to stop Sturminster Marshall slumping to a 4-2 home defeat against Westland Sports.
In the day’s other league game, Cranborne went down 1-0 at Chickerell United. Meanwhile, in the DPL Supplementary Cup, Sturminster Newton were knocked out after losing their semi-final replay 3-0 at Wincanton Town.
