Performances please Bash boss

STEVE Riley has been impressed with Bashley's performances in their opening two Southern League games despite the fact they've only picked up one point.

The Recreation Ground supremo saw his side open their campaign with a 0-0 draw at Clevedon but they lost 1-0 at home to Mangotsfield in midweek.

It leaves the New Forest outfit in unfamiliar territory staring up at most of their rivals in 18th place in the British Gas Business Premier Division.

Bashley host Halesowen tomorrow (3pm), a team Riley predicted would be one of his side's main rivals for the title.

Riley said: "I'm not happy with the amount of points we've collected. I'm pleased and encouraged with our performances though but I just think we need to get on the scoresheet and get a win under our belts.

"When you do that you settle.

"We've had two solid performances and only conceded one sloppy goal. We just need that cutting edge.

"We trained hard on our finishing in training on Thursday and hopefully we can put that right on Saturday."

Only Hemel out of 22 teams have begun the Southern League Premier Division campaign with two wins.

Riley said: "It's going to be a very competitive league like it was last season.

"There will be some unknown quantities because teams have changed since May. It's going to be around Christmas when you can look at the table and analysis it."

Halesowen have flattered to deceive, losing 1-0 at home to Tiverton before triumphing 2-0 at Rugby.

Riley said: "Halesowen will be a good side but every game is tough in this league. Some of our newer lads realised that against Mangotsfield. It doesn't matter how well you play you have to score and keep a clean sheet.

"You have to fight for every point and Saturday will be no different."
