BOSS Matty Holmes is hoping home advantage will again pay dividends as Wimborne Town bid to bring to a glorious conclusion their unlikely promotion challenge.

Magpies host Swindon Supermarine at Cuthbury on Bank Holiday Monday with a place in the Southern Premier League at stake for the victors (3pm kick-off).

Holmes’s charges booked their place in the play-off final with victory over Didcot on Wednesday, while Supermarine edged a dramatic penalty shootout at Evesham.

Wimborne did the double over the Wiltshire outfit during the regulation season, a 3-0 win at Cuthbury in October followed by a 1-0 victory at the Webbs Wood Stadium in March.

Holmes, in only his second season in management, said: “Nobody expected us to finish third in the league, not in a million years. We have surprised people and are on a roll.

“We will go into the game on Monday with no fear. If we lose, we lose. We have excited people along the way. We want people to watch us play, watch us score goals and we try to entertain.

“We will do nothing differently. With these boys, you just have to let them enjoy the moment. We will probably train on Saturday to get ready for Monday.

“We beat Swindon twice in very tight games. They are in the play-offs because they are a good team.

“Any team would want to be at home, we certainly do in front of our supporters so securing third place was key.

“I really hope we get a big crowd. Swindon are well supported so should bring down a few. It would create a wonderful atmosphere if we could get a lot of people here. We will enjoy the occasion and see what happens.”
