BOSS Matty Holmes expressed his pride as Wimborne Town reached the final of the Southern League West play-offs.
First-half goals from Toby Holmes – his 60th of the season – and Jack Lovell, son of Magpies legend Jason Lovell, saw them register a 2-0 win over Didcot.
It set up a final against Swindon Supermarine, conquerors of Evesham on penalties, with the winners of Monday’s shootout at Cuthbury earning promotion to the Premier Division.
Manager Holmes, speaking just after the final whistle had sounded, said: “It is incredible. It hasn’t really sunk in yet.
“As the season went on, we grew in confidence, we went into games and kept winning. The momentum kept going.
“As it gets nearer, you feel like you have a chance of getting in the play-offs and, once you are in there, it is a one-off cup game.
“Didcot are a good side. They had good form coming into the game, like us, and I was very proud of the way the boys went about it, especially in the first half.
“We will go into the final with no fear. Hopefully, we have put the town on the map as they have a football team to be proud of.”
