BOSS Matty Holmes believes the signing of Luke Burbidge provided the catalyst for Wimborne Town’s success this season.

The talented winger made the move from Poole Town to join up with the Cuthbury outfit, initially on loan, in September.

Having made the deal permanent the following month, Holmes insisted Burbidge’s arrival had given his squad a huge boost.

He told the Daily Echo: “The signing of Luke Burbidge was key for us. When we got the hint Luke wanted to come, it gave all the lads a lift because they already knew him.

“His signing helped us turn the corner. The boys thought ‘wow, we are able to sign a player like this’ and his assists and performances have been unbelievable to carry us to another level.

“You can combine and link with him. He has great feet in tight areas. His crossing ability is great and he is like and old-fashioned type winger.

“We are trying to get him to come inside and link and he does that as well. He mixes up his game and confuses full-backs.

“With him, Luke Holmes, Jack Lovell and Toby Holmes in the front four positions, they are a handful for any team at this level.”

Burbidge has provided more than 35 assists and scored nine goals in 42 Wimborne appearances this season.

He helped Magpies finish third in Southern League West and played a part in setting up their play-off semi-final against Didcot at Cuthbury on Wednesday (7.45pm).
