WAREHAM Rangers reserves upset the odds to win the Dorset Intermediate Cup final at the County Ground.

They beat AFC Blandford 4-3 on penalties after the scores ended level at 2-2 after extra time.

Rangers took the lead three minutes in. Simon Lander found himself in space and his shot took a wicked deflection and flew past the stranded Michael Gleadell in the Blandford goal.

As the first period progressed, Blandford began to enjoy more possession and equalised midway through the half, captain Liam Shingler converting a penalty following an infringement in the box.

After the restart, Jake Ford put Blandford ahead, only for a defensive mix-up to allow Aaron Willis to equalise with three minutes of normal time remaining.

Rangers were reduced to 10 men six minutes into extra time and the game nearly slipped away from them when a well-worked free-kick arrived at the feet of Shingler.

His well-struck shot rebounded off the near post and was cleared to safety by the Wareham defence.

With neither team able to add further to the score, Matt Todd proved the hero for Wareham in the shootout. He saved two Blandford penalties, despite missing one himself.

The cup was presented to Wareham captain Mike White and team-mate Chris White.
