CHRISTCHURCH tonight wrapped up the Sydenhams Wessex One title in style with a 5-1 hammering of Hythe & Dibden at Clayfields.

A brace from Max Wilcock and further goals from Jon Blake, Matt Neale and Scott Joyce saw Priory put the polish on their season.

The 2-1 defeat suffered by nearest rivals Andover New Street to Whitchurch United meant Christchurch would have won the title regardless of their result against Hythe & Dibden.

Ollie Cherrett's men had set up their chance to claim the crown after a history-making afternoon at Hurn Bridge on Saturday.

Defender David Legg ended a 14-year wait for his first goal at Wessex League level during a 6-0 triumph over Downton.

He fired home an 88th-minute penalty as Priory romped to their 22nd win of the campaign. Wilcock hit a hat-trick and there were also goals for Blake and James King.

Elsewhere in the division, Ringwood were crushed by Romsey Town with Callum Wells and Pepe-Chino Smith scoring in the 6-2 reverse. Ringwood went on to draw 2-2 at Stoneham.

Brad Gale bagged the only goal of the game as Verwood recorded a 1-0 triumph at Hythe & Dibden, which was followed by a 4-1 thumping of US Portsmouth.

On Friday, Dom Falco scored for New Milton in their 5-1 loss at Folland.

In Wessex Premier on Saturday, Cassius Newton’s winner earned Brockenhurst an enthralling 4-3 comeback victory over Cowes Sports at Grigg Lane.

Goals from Matt Sheedy and Matt Burt had put Badgers two goals ahead after 12 minutes before John McKie struck twice and Conor White found the net to put the visitors 3-2 up at the interval.

But Brockenhurst rallied and Mitch Speechley-Price levelled the game at 3-3 two minutes into the second half. Newton netted the winner 11 minutes from time.

Jake King notched a brace as hosts Lymington beat Hamble Club 3-2. Nathan Hurst was also on target.

Okoma Kulisewa’s strike proved only a consolation for Poppies, who were defeated 2-1 at Newport.

Hamworthy United, who make the trip to Blackfield & Langley on Wednesday (7.45pm), were beaten 1-0 at Fareham.
