BOSS Tom Killick is focusing on potentially the biggest game of his Poole Town career – as Dolphins try to keep alive their hopes of salvaging their National South status.

Defeat at Concord Rangers on Saturday could see Poole relegated after they missed out on the chance to make up ground on fellow strugglers Hungerford following their midweek loss to Hampton.

Poole currently occupy the final relegation berth and are five points adrift of Hungerford. The Dolphins finish their campaign with home games against Whitehawk and Oxford City.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Killick said: “We couldn’t get the result we needed on Tuesday, which was made worse when Concord’s result went against us.

"I didn’t fancy them to lose against an already-relegated team in midweek so I expected to be in a similar situation.”

Elsewhere, Hungerford face off against Whitehawk, who were the second team to have their relegation confirmed on Tuesday.

And while he is more concerned with his own team, Killick fears Hungerford may have it easy.

He said: “The difficulty is Whitehawk go to Hungerford. That’s a bit of a spanner in the works – Whitehawk could potentially down tools after being relegated.

"I’m not saying for one moment that they would – but they’ve spent a lot of money on a lot of players.

“They could suddenly decide now they’ve gone down that there’s no point paying those players for the next couple of the weeks. It could be a problem for us but we can’t focus on that.”

"We have to try to beat Concord and see where it would take us."

Despite the odds being stacked against the Dolphins, Killick is hopeful his charges can breathe fresh life into their relegation fight: “We have Marvin Brooks back.

"People forget that the suspensions of Marvin and James Constable at such a crucial time, due to a refereeing error, made things so difficult.

"Since James has been back, we have played with another dimension up top and Marvin will make a difference.”

“If we'd had the side we have available now all season, we wouldn’t be in the position we are. That’s another factor and the players can’t be blamed for that – it’s my fault.”
