BROCKENHURST will be aiming to reach the third round of the FA Vase for the first time since 2009 when they visit Hamble Club on Saturday.

The Sydenhams Wessex Premier rivals, who are locked in mid-table on 22 points, do battle for a place in Monday's draw and £900 in prize money at Hamble Community Facility (3pm).

Brockenhurst, who lost out to Dawlish Town in the third round eight years ago, have already had three eventful ties in this year's competition.

Mitchell Speechley-Price plundered hat-tricks in an extra-time win over Shaftesbury and a 5-3 victory against Combined Counties Premier Division outfit Godalming Town in qualifying.

Speechley-Price, who has shaken off an injury ahead of the clash against the reigning Wessex One champions, was then sent off in the first round showdown with Crediton United at the Meadens Skoda Arena last month.

However, despite going down to 10 men, the Badgers prevailed against the South West Peninsula League Division One East leaders thanks to a Mark Barker goal and Dammy Bada's extra-time winner.

Brockenhurst's best run in the FA Vase came in 1974-75 – their first season in the competition – when they reached the fifth round, eventually going out to Stamford.

Since reaching the third round in 2009, this is only the second time that the Badgers have progressed through qualifying, having lost to Blackfield & Langley in the first round in 2011.
