STRIKER Dan Cann netted a hat-trick as he announced his arrival at Hamworthy United in emphatic fashion.

The former Poole Town and Dorchester Town frontman agreed a deal to join Hammers from Wimborne Town.

He played a huge part as Brendon King’s side thumped Petersfield Town 9-0 in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier.

Cann’s treble was topped up by a hat-trick from Edgar Zanin, with Dan O’Sullivan, Carl Preston and Steve Smith also getting in on the act at the County Ground.

And with his new frontman off to a flying start against the league’s bottom side, boss Brendon King tipped Cann to make a big impact on Hammers’ season.

He told the Daily Echo: “We managed to get Canny in and signed for the game on Saturday.

“I think he was struggling to commit to Southern League football. He wanted to come down and play a little more locally.

“For us, it’s a great signing.

“He will bring a lot to us and we are pleased to have him on board.

“He showed little bits of quality against Petersfield – which is what we have been lacking in previous weeks.”

Hammers are now fourth in the league table with seven wins from their opening nine games.

Elsewhere in the division, Sami Makhloufi continued his impressive scoring form for Poppies as they beat Amesbury Town 2-0 away from home. Makhloufi and Fawzi Saadi struck to give the Victoria Park side victory.
