LOAN star Luke Burbidge claimed his enthusiasm for football had been restored by his temporary switch to Wimborne Town.

Burbidge linked up with Magpies from Poole Town at the start of the month and has enjoyed a fruitful three-game spell at Cuthbury.

He scored on his debut against Bristol Manor Farm and provided a goal and an assist in the 2-1 win over Bideford five days ago.

Wimborne manager Matty Holmes said the Poole frontman had given his side “a new lease of life” since his arrival, having agreed the move with Dolphins boss Tom Killick.

The former Cherries apprentice told the Daily Echo: “When I spoke to Tom about wanting to go out on loan and told him I wasn’t enjoying my time at Poole, he said ‘where would you want to go?’ because there were a few clubs he wouldn’t want me to go to.

“I said Wimborne straight away because I knew the boys, I knew Matty and knew what they would be about.

“I wanted to go somewhere where I enjoyed it.”

Asked why he felt he wasn’t enjoying his football prior to the move, Burbidge replied: “I was going through a stage where I wasn’t overly keen. I couldn’t really be bothered to go training and a few other little things.

“I was just getting to the point where it was becoming more of a job than enjoying the football itself.

“Now I am back to the stage where I am turning up and love going to see all the lads.

“That is no disrespect to Poole because I get on well with all the boys there.

“Tom, to be fair to him, has been really good with the loan. He could have just turned around and said ‘not a chance’ because I did sign a two-year deal at the start of the season.

“For me going forward, I just thought that Wimborne would get me back into the swing of things.

“The way Wimborne play and the way Matty wants them to play helps my game. They like to play attacking football, get on the ball and pass it when possible.

“If you are enjoying your football, I think you always play better anyway.”

Burbidge is set to be in the Wimborne squad when they host AFC Totton in Southern League West on Saturday (3pm).

Asked about a possible extension to the loan, the winger added: “I want to stay at Wimborne going forward but I am not sure of the situation there. I have left that to Matty and Tom to discuss.

“Going forward, I am hoping to have a few more games there at least.

“I don’t want to be disrespectful to Poole, they have been very good with everything.”
