BOSS Matty Holmes urged Wimborne Town to tighten up defensively in their FA Cup preliminary round replay against Andover Town at Cuthbury tomorrow (7.45pm).

Having gone 2-0 up at the Portway Stadium on Saturday, Magpies conceded three quick-fire first-half goals to go in at the interval behind.

Striker Toby Holmes popped up to seal his hat-trick in the second half to ensure Wimborne earned a 3-3 draw and another chance to progress.

The winners of the replay will host Cadbury Heath in the first qualifying round.

Manager Holmes told the Daily Echo: “I think the boys are disappointed with the way we defended. They are really looking forward to putting it right and trying to get into the next round.

“I was hoping this season we would be a bit more secure. At Didcot, we gave away four and, on Saturday, we gave away three, so we have a lot of work to do.

“It’s about setting up the boys in the right way but they have to do their jobs.

“If the players don’t do their jobs – which they didn’t on Saturday and some of them were told after the game – there is not a lot you can do as a manager or coach.”

Magpies will be without Josh Hartley, who will be missing for around six weeks with a hamstring injury, but Billy Maybury is set to return following a suspension.

Commenting on Saturday’s encounter, Holmes added: “I have never witnessed a game like it.

“It could have been about 7-7.

“We knew they would hit longer balls into the channels and put us under pressure but also, at times, they played a good passing game.

“It will be a tough game at home, that’s for sure.”
