MATTY Holmes expressed his desire to bring the buzz of the FA Cup to Wimborne Town this season.

The Cuthbury manager, who featured in the quarter-finals of the competition for West Ham against Luton in 1994, also admitted his love for the prestigious competition.

Wimborne enter at the preliminary round stage and face an intriguing tie when they make the trip to Sydenhams Wessex Premier side Andover Town tomorrow (3pm).

Giving his thoughts ahead of the clash, in which £1,925 in prize money is at stake, Holmes told the Daily Echo: “I love the FA Cup.

“I always did as a player. It’s high on my priorities and I really want to do well.

“It just gives the town a boost because it’s a famous competition.

“For this town to get a little cup run would be wonderful but we have to get over some big hurdles along the way.

“I got beaten in my first manager’s role last year in our first round. I don’t want that to happen again.

“It has that special buzz where teams maybe try extra hard against you because it has that prestige about it.”

Andover progressed to the preliminary round having overcome Lymington Town 2-0 in the extra preliminary stage.

With their opponents also having won all three of their league encounters so far this term, Holmes is fully aware of the substantial threat set to be posed by the home side.

He added: “We know they have some really dangerous players, who are Southern League quality. I think that gap has closed in the past few years.

“Mentally, we have to prepare well and make sure we go there to get a good result.”

Billy Maybury is set to miss out for Wimborne through suspension.

Elsewhere in the cup, Hamworthy United host Hellenic League Premier Division Ascot United at the County Ground (3pm).
