STEVE Devlin gave Poole Town a welcome boost following a difficult few days as he grabbed a late winner against nine-man Chippenham.

Dolphins, rocked by the serious knee injury suffered by striker Luke Roberts, had appeared set for a goal-less draw at Hardenhuish Park.

But Devlin smashed home in the third minute of second-half stoppage-time to maintain his team's 100 per cent away record in National South this term.

Chippenham had the better of the first period but the closest they came to breaking the deadlock was when Greg Tindle's header hit the crossbar.

Jake Smeeton's angled shot brought a smart save from Jared Thompson and the game's dynamic changed after the red card was twice brandished.

First, Jon Beeden was dismissed for a dangerous tackle with half-time approaching and then in the 65th minute, debutant Mike Jones was also ordered off.

Dolphins boss Tom Killick threw on Abdulai Baggie and Tony Lee with 12 minutes left and it was not long before the former's effort from distance struck a post.

Both players had further chances before Bluebirds keeper Thompson parried and Devlin gleefully sent the ball into the net.

Dolphins: Hutchings, Moore, Smeeton, Dickson (Lee, 78), Whisken, Lindsay, Burbidge, Devlin, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cooper (Baggie, 78), Pettefer. Unused subs: Bedford, Balmer, Rees (g/k).
