LEADING goalscorer Olivia Jones bagged a dramatic late winner to help New Milton Town clinch the Southern Region Women’s League Division One title.
Jones’s effort eight minutes from time saw the Linnets register a crucial 2-1 victory against Reading-based Barton Rovers on Sunday.
It earned Lou Fern’s charges promotion to the Premier Division – just one step from the FA Women’s Premier League system.
New Milton, the highest-ranked women’s team in the area, headed to Barton Rovers knowing only victory would be enough to secure the silverware.
Jones gave them the ideal start when she opened the scoring in the first half, only for Rovers to level before the interval.
As the clock ticked, the Fawcett’s Field outfit looked set to have to settle for second place until Jones popped up in the nick of time, her exploits also seeing her win the divisional golden boot.
