TOM Killick played down his contribution to Poole Town's recent success and insisted organising coach travel had given him a greater challenge than any player.

Boss Killick won the National South manager-of-the-month award for February after piloting Poole to four league wins out of five and 13 points from a possible 15.

And Dolphins' lofty position in the standings was helped by five goals in as many games from makeshift frontman Marvin Brooks, who earned the player-of-the-month gong.

A bashful Killick told the Daily Echo: "We had a good month, it was a team effort.

"The players are very easy to manage. Often the most taxing thing I do is arranging the pick-up points for the away coach trips!

"They are a pleasure to manage and don't take much managing so it's all credit to them."

On Brooks's effort, Killick said: "It hadn't been his familiar position so that makes it even more remarkable.

"The first game we put him up there, he was pretty much a makeshift forward so bearing that in mind, what he has done is even more remarkable. I'm pleased for him."

Poole, who occupy the final play-off spot, are set to travel to 16th-placed Welling tomorrow (3pm).

Killick added: "They had a change of manager relatively recently.

"One thing we have learned this season is that we've had some games against teams in the lower echelons who have been unbelievably tough, as well as some more straightforward stuff.

"It's about taking it with a pinch of salt. They have got some good players. It's away and it's going to be difficult, that's all we need to know.

"We are confident but we have to keep remembering what gives us our success and it is about making sure we play with a real intensity.

"When we try to play a different way, it is not very successful. So the players are well aware of what is required."

Killick hopes to welcome back Jake Smeeton, Shaun Cooper and Richard Gillespie to the fold.
