BOSS Ollie Cherrett revealed Christchurch’s midweek win at Shaftesbury had given the club a huge lift ahead of their Sydenhams Wessex One run-in.

Priory’s 2-1 victory at Cockrams on Tuesday revived their promotion hopes and halted a five-match winless sequence which had yielded just two points.

It closed the gap on third-placed Laverstock & Ford to six points, although the Wiltshire outfit – who occupy the final promotion berth – have two games in hand.

Christchurch tomorrow visit second-bottom Andover New Street (3pm), while Lavvy face a tricky trip to in-form Weymouth reserves.

Cherrett told the Daily Echo: “We have seven big games left. We have to keep winning and hope Laverstock slip up.

“The feelgood factor is back and we are all looking forward to the challenge ahead. We will keep believing and see where it takes us.”

Also in Wessex One, New Milton host Tadley Calleva and Ringwood travel to Folland Sports.

  • Verwood Town, eight points adrift of safety at the foot of the Premier Division, host Hamworthy United bidding to record their first league double of the season.

The Potters, 3-1 winners at the County Ground in September, have collected a solitary point from their past nine games.

Poppies visit second-placed Blackfield & Langley and will be hoping to repeat their heroics from October when they triumphed 2-1 over the Watersiders.

  • Bashley halted a six-match winless run after registering a 2-0 victory against struggling Whitchurch United on Wednesday.

Dan Munday had a hand in their second-half opener at Longmeadow when Whitchurch defender Corey Cherrett turned Harry McGrath’s cross into his own net under extreme pressure from the striker.

And Munday added a second, fastening on to a perfectly-weighted through ball from Hugh Dathan before firing past goalkeeper Ellis Grant.
