BOSS Matty Holmes admits he may be forced to continue his football journey elsewhere if his Wimborne Town future is not swiftly finalised.

Appointed in May last year, the former Cherries star has guided Magpies to 12th in Southern South & West – level with their highest finish in the ladder.

The club is in a state of flux following the recent departure of chairperson Paula Henley but Matty Holmes said last month that he would like to remain in his role.

The 47-year-old's Cuthbury deal is set to expire in June and he has spoken to the club's hierarchy about the urgency to resolve his future.

Matty Holmes told the Daily Echo: "I've said that if I don't hear by the early part of March, I will have to look around at work opportunities, so they are aware of that.

"But I have heard absolutely nothing about next season, my situation and the budget. It's important to speak to players about next season, too.

"The whole situation is up in the air at the moment. They are aware of my thinking and what I need to do is protect myself and my family."

Wimborne are due to entertain strugglers Wantage tomorrow (3pm) and Carl Preston and Connor Cocklin are doubtful with knee problems, while Luke Holmes has had a back complaint.

"There could be changes," said the manager.

"If we have to call on a couple of young boys, we'll have to do it. It's where we are at the moment, unfortunately. We have a small squad and any injuries do affect us.

He added: "The remit at the start of the season was to keep the club up.

"We have challenged the boys to finish as high as possible. We have had our blips but since December the lads have been terrific in terms of their play.

"We're competitive in every game we play and that's all I can ask. On the budget we've got, it is what it is. These boys are working their socks off and playing to their maximum and that's all you ask every week.

"People say 'Matty Holmes has come in and the budget has gone through the roof' but they are way off the mark on that one.

"The opportunity to became a manager was to go to Wimborne, who have a very low budget, and test my managerial skills alongside Danny (Holmes) and Shane (Traynor) as coaches.

"It's been a great learning experience and I wouldn't have it any other way."
