A LATE winner by player-manager Fawzi Saadi eased Poppies' relegation fears against visitors Andover Town.

The Sydenhams Wessex Premier fixture had appeared destined to end goal-less but Saadi popped up in stoppage time to hand his team a 1-0 success.

Poppies are now seven points clear of the drop zone with nine games left to play.

Elsewhere, Lymington Town's five-match winning run came to an end when they were beaten 2-0 by Horndean. Second-half goals from Jack Maloney and Sam Smart won it for the visitors.

Bashley's hopes of a Wessex League Cup semi-final berth were dashed when they surrendered an early lead against lower-league Shaftesbury.

Harry McGrath had given Bash the initiative four minutes in but Seb Dawes quickly replied and Martin Schroeder put the away side in front. Danny Finnigan added Shaftesbury's third midway through the second half.

In Division One, Christchurch's hopes of promotion look increasingly remote following their 3-1 loss at leaders Hamble Club.

Priory are 10 points behind Laverstock & Ford, who currently hold the third promotion spot and have played one game fewer.

Recent signing Russell Cook scored Christchurch's consolation against Hamble, while Michael Byrne, Wayne O'Dell and substitute James Thomson netted for the victors.
