WIMBORNE Town boss Matty Holmes wants his future finalised by the end of this month and insists: "I would like to stay."

Appointed in May last year, the former Cherries star has guided Magpies to 11th in Southern South & West – one place above their highest finish in the ladder.

The club is currently in a state of flux following the departure of chairperson Paula Henley, with president Ken Stewart and former director Tony Grant covering while a long-term successor is sought.

Matty Holmes's contract at Cuthbury is due to expire in June and the manager is keen to find out what his future holds.

Speaking ahead of tonight's trip to promotion-chasers Taunton (7.45pm), he told the Daily Echo: "My situation has to be sorted out with the new chair coming in, ideally in the next two or three weeks because I'm contracted until the end of June and anyone in any field of work wants to know their future.

"It's not a huge rush but by the end of February I need to know what my situation is, so I can start gearing the boys up for next season and talk about contracts.

"Although the club is doing well on the pitch, I think it's an important time if the club's going to move forward that things are sorted out quite quickly.

"I've really enjoyed the experience so far and I would like to stay. It's a project I don't want to leave but it's up to the powers above."

Meanwhile, the boss insists his son Luke Holmes will stay at Wimborne until the end of the campaign following a third bid from another Southern South & West club.

The 19-year-old is under contract at Cuthbury and alongside the interested mystery club, Salisbury are also keeping tabs on the youngster.

Matty Holmes said: "We're getting interest in Luke following the Hereford game. Salisbury have shown an interest and we have also had another money bid for him.

"But Luke is a very loyal boy and he loves Wimborne. He will stay until the end of the season for his development.

"Then he will weigh up who is staying and I suppose he will look at my situation. If he's got offers from elsewhere then it will be his decision what he wants to do."

Keeper Gerard Benfield is also set to stay at Magpies following a seven-day approach from Dorchester.

Matty Holmes added: "Gerard has started to create huge interest. I had a seven-day approach for him but he is under contract and not interested in leaving."

James Stokoe may be rested for the trip to Taunton while Jamie Davidson is available following suspension.
