TOBY Holmes's Panenka penalty which earned Wimborne Town a point at league leaders Hereford was plotted on the journey to Edgar Street.

The prolific striker chipped home from 12 yards to earn Magpies a 2-2 draw against a side who had previously failed to win at home just twice this season.

In front of a crowd of nearly 2,300, Hereford led 2-1 until Toby Holmes bagged his second goal with 11 minutes left, leaving goalkeeper Alex Harris red-faced.

Wimborne boss Matty Holmes said: "Toby's penalty was very cheeky. It was class, really.

"Normally he comes in, waits for the goalkeeper to go one way and slots the ball into the opposite corner. Apparently on the way up he said to the boys that if we got a penalty he was going to chip it.

"None of the management team knew that and if he had missed I'd hate to think what we would have said to him! I think he has the replay on his phone so I'm sure that's something he will save and cherish.

"He worked his socks off all afternoon and made some really intelligent runs so he deserved his two goals."

Wimborne started in less than ideal fashion when they conceded after just 49 seconds. Good work by Mike Symons led to a chance for John Mills and Southern South & West's top scorer duly lashed past Gerard Benfield.

Mark Preece hit the woodwork for the hosts before Toby Holmes equalised, the frontman dancing through the defence and beating Harris following Carl Preston's quick free-kick.

The Bulls restored their lead shortly after the break after James Stokoe pulled down Symons in the box. Mills sent Benfield the wrong way from the spot to register his second of the game.

Minutes later Mills had a goal ruled out for offside and Toby Holmes went close from a tight angle, before the latter levelled from the spot.

Matty Holmes added: "It looked as if we were up against it after we gave away the first goal but the players rallied and we started to move the ball round. I was delighted at the way we got back in the game.

"The boys responded well to their second goal as well. They could easily have steamrollered us if we hadn't showed character but we dug in.

"I was very proud of the boys. I thought they performed magnificently. We've been playing like that since December although we've had the odd blip.

"What the boys did was a great achievement and they should be proud of their performance."
