POOLE Town boss Tom Killick was last night hopeful of completing a move for Winchester City hotshot Craig Feeney to bolster his dwindling frontline ranks.

Killick was forced to turn to midfielder Marvin Brooks to fill in during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Maidenhead in National South but Feeney, who last month turned down a switch to long-term suitors Weymouth, could offer a solution.

The former AFC Totton and Gosport Borough marksman has 31 goals to his name this season, including 19 in Southern South & West.

And with Richard Gillespie sidelined by tendinitis and Luke Roberts having recently suffered from a hamstring problem, Killick is keen to recruit Feeney, who could feature in tonight's clash with fellow play-off chasers St Albans at the Black Gold Stadium (7.45pm).

Killick told the Daily Echo: "We put in a seven-day approach for Craig Feeney and we've had a chat with him but that is not resolved yet. We're hoping he may be involved against St Albans but we need to get the paperwork done.

"I first tried to sign him five or six years ago when we were in the Southern League's southern section and he was scoring a lot of goals in the Wessex League.

"He is someone I have been interested in ever since. This year he has really come into his own and scored a lot of goals and we would like to have a closer look at him.

"He is Winchester's player and they were good enough to let us speak to him so we will just have to see if we can come to a solution which suits all parties.

"I'm quietly confident he will be involved against St Albans and then we'll see what happens after that."

Killick added: "We had hoped to bring someone in from AFC Bournemouth during the January transfer window but that never materialised.

"I think we do need to bring in an attacking player but it is difficult to find someone who is going to be effective and is affordable.

"Centre-forwards who score goals are always at a premium.

"I'm happy with the squad as a whole. It's just an extra attacking player we would like and then we should be pretty much there."

Roberts is doubtful to feature against St Albans and Lewis Lindsay is still out, although Lewis Tallack is available following suspension.

Killick is hopeful of reversing the result which saw Dolphins thumped 4-0 in a midweek fixture at Clarence Park in September.

The manager added: "We were beaten comprehensively up there. We had a bad start to the match and it was one of our poorer performances.

"It was one of the only games in which we weren't competitive. There is no way we would underestimate them bearing in mind what happened in that game.

"I'm confident we have learned lessons since then and that at home we can do better."
