CHRISTCHURCH manager Ollie Cherrett hopes the returning Max Frampton will prove the "last piece of the jigsaw" for his promotion-chasing side.

Cherrett swooped for the Bemerton keeper on Tuesday and Frampton could start in Saturday's crucial Sydenhams Wessex One clash with fifth-placed Shaftesbury.

The veteran stopper has a wealth of experience in local football under his belt following stints at Blackfield, Brockenhurst, Hamworthy United, Poppies and Poole Town.

Cherrett told the Daily Echo: "Max is an experienced goalkeeper with a massive influence in the changing room.

"Andy Knights has been struggling with injury so we put in a seven-day approach for Max and he signed on Tuesday night.

"Being an old Christchurch boy it means a lot to him to do well at the club.

"Max is a personality and a winner, which is massive for me. He is not here to have a jolly with his mates.

"We have a really strong core of players now and, hopefully, he is the last piece of the jigsaw."

On the trip to Shaftesbury, Cherrett added: "They have some good players.

"Hopefully, we can get at them, push on and get a result. Then we won't have to worry about the teams below us in the table."
