POOLE Town boss Tom Killick called for a "proper and fair mechanism" for National South clubs to appeal dismissals after Lewis Tallack was red-carded in the stalemate with Eastbourne Borough.

The recalled defender was dismissed by referee Aji Ajibola late on at Priory Lane, minutes after the hosts' Craig Stone had been ordered off following a robust challenge on substitute Jack Dickson.

Tallack, brought into the starting XI as a late replacement for calf injury victim Shaun Cooper, now faces a three-game ban with no video evidence apparently available to back up Dolphins' case.

Speaking after his 700th game in charge of the Tatnam side, Killick told the Daily Echo: "Lewis Tallack did very well and was a bit unfortunate to be sent off.

"From our perspective and the player's perspective, to miss three games when you shouldn't really do so is quite harsh. That's the disappointment when you get a sending off you feel is the wrong decision.

"They make the appeal process so difficult for sides at our level. You have to have conclusive video evidence which is pretty much always a stumbling block.

"It pretty much means these decisions are un-appealable, which I think is wrong.

"People make mistakes and referees are no different and there has to be a proper and fair mechanism for reviewing it. We haven't really got that at our level of football, which is a shame."

Reflecting on the incidents, Killick added: "It was one of those classic scenarios where their player was rightly given a red card, in my view, for an over-the-top tackle and then a few minutes later, Lewis made a tackle which we didn't feel was a red card.

"Eastbourne, understandably, made quite a drama out of it and the referee, as is often the case, feels under pressure to even things up."

Poole slipped out of the play-off places following the draw, a result which Eastbourne's loan goalkeeper Jordan Holmes – part of the Cherries under-21s set-up – contributed impressively to on his debut.

Both sides had efforts disallowed and Luke Burbidge came closest for the visitors in the first half when he headed into the net after Steve Devlin's shot had crashed off the bar. But Killick's side were denied by a verdict of offside.

A foul on goalkeeper Nick Hutchings saw an Eastbourne effort ruled out shortly after the break.

Killick, who felt Burbidge's header should have stood, added: "Eastbourne have a 3G pitch and early on we struggled to adapt to the surface and they looked stronger.

"But as the game went on we became more confident and established ourselves.

"In the second half I felt we were the better side and looked more likely to win the game.

"But I was pleased. In this league, if you go away from home and get a draw, I think you can be pretty satisfied with that."
