MERCURIAL Mike Haskell took centre stage as Verwood Town climbed off the foot of the Sydenhams Wessex Premier table following an emphatic 3-0 win over Whitchurch United on Wednesday.

Haskell, playing his first game for the Potters since 2013-14, ensured it would be a fairytale return and marked his comeback by bagging the opening goal midway through the first half at Potterne Park.

His 24th-minute effort was added to by Liam Donachy on the stroke of half-time before Charlie Gajic completed the scoring with a penalty as the Potters registered a fourth successive home league win.

It took Adie Arnold's team up three places to 19th ahead of tomorrow’s trip to runaway leaders Moneyfields (3pm).
