MATTY Holmes is advocating a passing approach at Wimborne Town because he is desperate to avoid "boring football".

The Magpies boss, in the midst of his first full season in charge at Cuthbury, says attracting fans through the gate is as important as winning games.

Wimborne drew 2-2 with AFC Totton in the FA Trophy on Saturday and will tonight travel to Testwood Stadium for the replay in a bid to reach the first qualifying round and earn £2,500 in prize money (7.45pm).

Reflecting on his team's style of play, Holmes told the Daily Echo: "The thing I'm delighted with is the boys are playing some lovely football. Win, lose or draw, I'm happy if we've played the kind of football which will attract people to watch us.

"It's the way I've been brought up and the same goes for my coaches Danny Holmes and Shane Traynor. We all believe in it and the players have adapted to it well.

"We will get beaten playing this way but as long as we work hard and put on a good show, we'll have that all day. I don't want to sit there watching us hoof the ball – I get bored!

"I want to see attacking, exciting football where the boys are enjoying it, moving the ball quickly and having a go for each other and the management.

"It takes a brave player to play that way. I think a lot of managers fear losing games but I've got no fear of losing games."

Paddy Hester is available for the clash with Totton but loan keeper Pat O'Flaherty is ineligible. James Stokoe is on holiday and Luke Holmes faces another three weeks out with an ankle injury.
