SAMANTHA Gubb netted twice as Poole Town booked a place in the fourth qualifying round of the SSE Women’s FA Cup yesterday.

Gubb’s double, coupled with a stunning 30-yarder from Katie Paul, earned Poole a 3-0 victory over Bristol-based AEK Boco at Tatnam.

New Milton, however, suffered extra-time heartbreak, going down 2-1 at the hands of Exeter City at Fawcett’s Field.

The Linnets took the lead through Lucy Slater but were pegged back by Kate Finch’s brace for the Grecians, the winner coming in the second period of extra-time.

New Milton were good value for their interval lead but had defender Rebecca Ingram sent off for denying Finch a clear goalscoring opportunity in the closing stages of normal time.

Poole Town will discover their opponents when the fourth qualifying round draw is made today, the tie due to take place on November 13.

Joint-boss Josh Jones-Keen said: “We controlled the game quite well in the first half. When we played well, we kept the ball and kept them quiet but they did look a threat from set-pieces.

“We really upped it in the second half and played some very good football. The second goal killed it and they didn’t really trouble us in the second half.”
