CONTENTED boss Matty Holmes hailed the fighting spirit shown by his Wimborne Town players after they snatched a point at Bridgwater Town.

Luke Holmes converted with eight minutes to play to level matters at 2-2 in the Southern South & West clash, handing his side a share of the spoils.

He had earlier put the Magpies in front just after the half hour mark not long after Toby Holmes had hit the post.

But Bridgwater levelled through Syd Camper moments into the second period and Ben Palmer's looping header made it 2-1 with 12 minutes to go.

However, Luke Holmes soon intervened and Wimborne survived a late scare when Elliot Ripley hammered against the bar, leaving Matty Holmes happy with the result.

The boss told the Daily Echo: "It was a pleasing point because we didn't play particularly well.

"We allowed Bridgwater to get a head of steam and they could have gone on to win the game so I'm delighted with the spirit we showed to get a point.

"Bridgwater had some fighting spirit and we gave them the opportunity to have that spark having not killed the game early.

"Toby hit the post early on and had that gone in it could have been a little bit different.

"We didn't deal with the game particularly well but it was another welcome point towards our total."
