WIMBORNE Town manager Matty Holmes has hinted at the possibility of forging an informal link with Bemerton Heath Harlequins.

Holmes is hoping to establish a tie-up which could see some of Magpies’ talented youngsters gain valuable playing time with the Sydenhams Wessex Premier club.

Wimborne, currently sixth in Division One South & West of the Southern League, last week signed Bemerton’s Jack Lovell, who scored in their midweek win at AFC Totton.

The former Verwood and Christchurch frontman is the son of local non-league legend Jason Lovell, who featured in Wimborne’s 1992 FA Vase triumph.

Lovell junior was Bemerton’s leading appearance-maker last season, netting 11 times in 47 games in all competitions after reuniting with ex-Christchurch boss Graham Kemp at Western Way.

Holmes told the Daily Echo: “Graham Kemp was very good with us when we signed Jack and he wants his players to progress.

“Jack was a target for us a while ago. He knows a few of the boys here and that was a help when we were doing a bit of research on him.

“His dad was a Wimborne player and, I believe, he was quite a popular one.

“Jack came on for about half-an-hour against Mangotsfield on Saturday and did very well so I thought he warranted a start against Totton. He was a real handful and lively on the right-hand side.

“I told Graham we may have some good, young players who may be on our bench and who might not get too much game time at the moment.

“If he is interested in them and wants to watch them, they could play in a very good side in the Wessex Premier.

“That would give them the game time which possibly I can’t look at giving them at the moment so that could be the link. We could help each other out if that happens.”

Holmes wasted no time in further bolstering his resources after presiding over Wimborne’s 6-1 victory at Totton – the club’s biggest win since they joined the Southern League in 2010.

He swooped for attacking midfielder Sam Lanahan who could be in line for a debut when Magpies visit winless Bridgwater Town tomorrow (3pm).

Lanahan left Blackfield & Langley to join National South Gosport Borough in June but has opted to drop back into the Southern League.

The 24-year-old former Yeovil Town academy player, who bagged 24 goals in 31 appearances for Blackfield last season, joined Dorchester from Hamworthy United in November 2013 but reluctantly moved on after starting a new teaching job in Salisbury.
