POOLE Town boss Tom Killick was pleased to widen his midfield options after Lewis Lindsay excelled in the centre of the park against Welling United.

Former Cherries youngster Lindsay, better known as a defender, stepped in to plug the gap left by Dolphins' injury problems.

He played 90 minutes in Saturday's 2-1 National South victory at Tatnam and Killick was buoyed by the covering effort.

Killick told the Daily Echo: "I thought Lewis Lindsay did very well in an unfamiliar midfield role.

"I have four senior central midfielders at the club and three of them are injured so we were in a little bit of difficulty.

"We've played him there a couple of times in the past when Carl Pettefer has been injured but it's not a natural position for him.

"I just thought he was very good and grew into it. In the first half of the second half, particularly, I thought he was very impressive.

"That helped us out of a bit of a hole."

New recruit and central midfielder Kieran Bailey had been signed by Killick the day before the Welling clash on a week-to-week basis. Bailey came on as a late substitute, replacing Richard Gillespie.

The manager added: "We brought Kieran in from Bournemouth but he only signed for us on Friday.

"He hadn't trained and we hadn't seen anything of him so it would have been quite a big call to start him.

"I would imagine Marvin Brooks and Petts will both be fit by the time we play our next match a week on Saturday, so that gives us some strength in that area."
