MANAGER Tom Killick is urging Poole Town to beware of Chippenham’s familiar sharp shooters in a bid to avoid an FA Cup banana skin.

Ex-Bath City striker David Pratt and former Wycombe frontman Andy Sandell already have 13 goals between them for the high-flying Bluebirds this season.

Chippenham proved to be a thorn in Poole’s side during their quest for promotion from the Southern League in recent seasons and sit second in the Premier Division ahead of renewing acquaintances with the Dolphins tomorrow (3pm).

And with £4,500 in prize money up for grabs, Killick knows his side will need to be at their best to progress through the second qualifying round tie.

“Without doubt, we could have had a more favourable draw but with us entering later, we knew there was the prospect of our first game being tougher,” said Killick.

“Chippenham have enjoyed a great start to the season and beat Moneyfields, a strong Wessex League side, 9-0 in the last round. That’s no mean feat.

“They have signed David Pratt, one of the best centre-forwards in their area, to partner Andy Sandell so we know they will pose a threat.

“We have to prepare as well as possible because we desperately want to go as far as we can in the FA Cup for the sake of the players and the club.”

On the financial front, Killick continued: “That is one of the biggest things that changes when you make the move from playing into management.

“As a player it is all about the prospect of getting to the first round proper but once you are in the dugout, you soon become very aware of the financial rewards and how much help that can give to your club.

“It is only right the players are shut off from that but I have to understand it. You can’t approach the games any differently, it is just one of the consequences you are aware of.”

After a flurry of injuries in recent weeks, Killick reported better news on the fitness front with only midfielder Marvin Brooks certain to miss the trip to Hardenhuish Park.

The inclusion of Cherries loanee Sam Surridge is subject to permission from his parent club.

“We are in a far better place with regard to injuries than we were three or four weeks ago,” said Killick.

“Other than Marvin, who started running this week, we are pretty much back to full strength which is quite a relief on the back of our recent problems.

“I am very happy with the quality and size of the squad. The injury situation we faced meant we had to look at supplementing it, which we did with Sam Surridge.

“But now people are back, we are less likely to make any further additions.”
