POOLE Town boss Tom Killick hailed the "remarkable" response of his players after turning round their opening-day disappointment.

Having earned promotion to National South last term, Dolphins were beaten 4-0 by Ebbsfleet United early in August.

However, they then embarked on a superb run of six games unbeaten, taking 16 points out of a possible 18.

And Poole now sit fourth in the embryonic standings, one spot above Ebbsfleet, who were beaten in last season's play-off final.

Reflecting on his team's start to the season, Killick told the Daily Echo: "There is no point pretending I wasn't deeply concerned after the Ebbsfleet game.

"People were telling me they were an exception but it did set off a few alarm bells.

"The way the players have responded to that I think has been remarkable.

"It's uncharted territory. We are enjoying it. We are finding our feet but managing to pick up points while we're doing it."

New recruit Sam Surridge could be given his debut when Poole make the trip to Wealdstone tomorrow (3pm).

The Cherries under-21s striker will remain at Tatnam until January. He previously spent time on loan at Weymouth in the Southern League.
