VERWOOD Town boss Gavin Reeves has hailed as “a revelation” the club’s FA Cup talisman James Guthrie.

Guthrie has plundered six goals in their past three games in the competition, including a late double to earn them a preliminary round replay at Fareham tonight (7.45pm).

Potters were trailing 2-0 to the Creeksiders at Potterne Park on Saturday before 18-year-old Guthrie netted twice in the final 15 minutes and had another chance cleared off the line in injury-time.

The Sydenhams Wessex Premier rivals will resume battle at Cams Alders with £1,925 in prize money and a trip to either Wimborne or Alresford at stake for the victors.

Reeves told the Daily Echo: “James has come from our youth set-up. He made a few appearances last season but, since I have started him up front, he has been a revelation.

“He’s got quick feet, he knows where the goal is, he’s quite sharp and is doing the business at the moment so I am very pleased.

“I was really pleased with how the lads fought back on Saturday. We played some really good football and going there with a good chance of winning.”

Potters welcome back Ryan Kelly, Brad Goddard and Ethan Maddocks.

In the first round of the Hampshire Senior Cup, Poppies entertain Andover Town and Brockenhurst host Totton & Eling (both 7.45pm).
