BOSS Ken Vaughan admits he will again be scouring the lower leagues to bolster his Bournemouth Poppies squad ahead of the new campaign.

With little room for manoeuvre financially, Poppies are keen to offer amateurs the opportunity to step up to Wessex League football.

Vaughan told the Daily Echo: "We want to get in young, hungry players who want to have a go but it is difficult to attract people when there is not a lot to offer.

“Rather than try to pull in lads from other Wessex League clubs for 20 quid here or there, we want to get the boys who maybe haven’t had the chance to have a go at a higher level.

“Whether that’s lads who have been in the youth set-ups elsewhere, in the Bournemouth or Hampshire League, and might not be on to the radar of clubs with a bit of money."

Vaughan admits it will be another summer rebuild at Namu Road but draws hope from past experience.

“We were in a similar situation a couple of years ago and lost the first nine matches but in the end, we stayed up quite comfortably because we had lads who wanted to battle.

“It might be tough to start with but we’ll be alright once we have brought in a couple of faces.”
