FORMER Wimborne Town midfielder Franklyn Clarke has earned a professional contract with National League outfit York City.

The 23-year-old penned a one-year contract yesterday having impressed manager Jackie McNamara in a two-week trial.

Clarke played at Cuthbury during his time studying at Bournemouth University where he came to the attention of then Magpies manager Steve Cuss.

The Liverpudlian had a brief spell with Blackfield & Langley, moved back to Wimborne and then ended last season with Dorchester.

Clarke took to Twitter to thank the people that had helped him on his way to a first full-time deal, including Cuss.

He posted: "Signing my first professional contract is a dream come true. Time to work harder than ever now."

Meanwhile, Wimborne favourite Jason Harvell has been named as the club's new goalkeeping coach.
