BOSS Tom Prodomo reckons the key to Bashley looking beyond survival rests on laying long-overdue foundations.

Prodomo admits his initial target for the forthcoming campaign is to stay in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier after finishing rock bottom of the Southern League Premier Division or South & West in each of the past three seasons.

But the Bashley Road manager insists that will only be possible if the club can retain a core of players instead of thinking season to season.

Prodomo told the Daily Echo: “For us, it is about building a squad we can add to over the coming years.

“We have to make sure this time next year that we have a squad we can build on rather than having another big overhaul. That has happened over the past few years and it is not sustainable every summer.

“Success for me at this stage would be to get a group of players good enough to stay in the Wessex Premier and to then start looking up the table from there.

“We need to be in a position where we are adding to our structure as we go along rather than rebuilding it all the time.”

Bashley are due to kick-off their league campaign at home to Hamworthy United on Tuesday, August 2.
